Alternatives to chemical crop control

In their cocoa farms, producers use neither fertilizer nor pesticides. Their plots are forest ecosystems with cocoa and a high diversity of fruits or vegetables for self-consumption or sale.

The 1000 families of small cocoa producers, located in the north of Peru, cultivate their plots in agroforestry. They associate a great diversity of fruit and forest species with Criollo cocoa. In this way, they maintain the fertility of the soil without chemical inputs. The shade trees regulate the humidity of the soil and the proliferation of pests.
